Geography

Palmetto Dunes,  Hilton Head is conveniently located in the middle of the Island, directly across from Shelter Cove Harbor, where many summertime events are held. Palmetto Dunes stretches along three miles of pristine South Carolina beaches. Mid-way along the beach is The Dunes House, a public access beach facility.

Golf

Palmetto Dunes has been regarded as having some of the best golf facilities in the nation, and offers three top-rated golf courses. The Arthur Hills is Palmetto Dunes’ most applauded course. It received a remarkable 4.5 stars from Fodor’s Golf Digest Places to Play fifth edition. The George Fazio Course, and Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront courses are both award winning as well. Several eateries overlook the golf courses and allow everyone to enjoy a pre-game snack, or a post-game meal.

Learning Centers

Palmetto Dunes’ Learning Centers turn a vacation into a fun and educational experience. The Learning Centers can help you and your family learn how to do many fun outdoor activities, from instruction on the perfect tennis serve to kayaking. Beginner to experienced golfers can build their skills with Chipping and Putting workshops, Family Golf, and even private golf lessons. PD Outfitter’s Surf School offers surf lessons for the adventurous type. Fishers of all types can hone their skills through fly fishing and surf casting workshops designed to improve your cast, knot tying, and every other aspect of skilled fishing.

Palmetto Dunes Resort offers a series of nature tours for kids, families, and nature lovers of any age. Skimmer Nature Charters frequently have close encounters with Dolphins and other wildlife indigenous to Hilton Head Island. The Beach Combing Trip ventures to nearby islands in search of shells, crabs, sand dollars, and even dolphins. Individual boat rentals are available for those who would rather take the reigns of the boat themselves than have a guided tour. Fishing opportunities are plenty, including both inshore lessons and off-shore fishing boat charters.

Shelter Cove

Shelter Cove Harbor, directly across Highway 278 from Palmetto Dunes, has the largest deep-water yacht basin on the Island. It is one of the finest ports of call on the East Coast. Virtually any water sport can be enjoyed through the services available in Shelter Cove Harbor. Enjoy the fireworks every Tuesday during Harbor Fest, or use the great mid-island location as a launching spot for adventures on one of the numerous surrounding islands. Every event at Shelter Cove Harbor is free and open to the public.

Dining

Palmetto Dunes has a wide selection of great restaurants, grilles, delis, and many other fine eateries. The Fazio Grill is one of the resort’s several golf grills located on Palmetto Dunes’ excellent golf courses. It offers a variety of sandwiches, snacks and beverages that you can eat-in or take with you on the golf course. Alexander’s features exquisite continental cuisine and great service. These combined features make Alexander’s one of the finest eating establishments on Hilton Head Island. Serving mostly seafood, Alexander’s is a recipient of AAA’s Three Diamond award, and offers up the best in marine cuisine. Café at the Marriot gives a more relaxed experience with its casual American dining and nightly in-season seafood buffets.

Shopping

Shopping is an event at Palmetto Dunes. The resort’s general store allows for super-market convenience in the center of the Palmetto Dunes resort. From sunscreen to groceries- everything you need to make your vacation great is available. It even has a full deli. The golf shops at Palmetto Dunes are known for providing exclusive lines of fashion and golfing equipment. Find everything you need to perfect your golf game in these top-of-the-line pro shops. The Tennis Center Pro shop provides the same level of quality in its tennis clothing and equipment selections.

Transportation

Palmetto Dunes Resort, and the rest of Hilton Head Island, is only 45 minutes away from Savannah International Airport, and 20 minutes from Hilton Head Regional. Hilton Head Island is also only 45 miles from Savannah, Georgia.

The Palmetto Dunes Buggy provides transportation in and between Palmetto Dunes and Shelter Cove harbor. The Dunes Buggy operates on an on-demand, first-come-first-served basis service. Visitors to Palmetto Dunes can schedule a pickup at any location within Palmetto Dunes or Shelter Cove by calling 843.689.4222. Palmetto Dunes’ beaches, shops, and other amenities are all serviced by the buggy. The van usually arrives within 10 minutes of a request.

RESORT RULES AND REGULATIONS

Palmetto Dunes is a gated community with rules and regulations that must be followed.  Gated communities do not allow commercial decals/wraps on vehicles, motorcycles, motorized or electric bicycles, scooters or skateboards of any kind, Recreation Vehicles (RVs), motorhomes, trailers, campers, boats or jet skis.  Vehicles must be parked on driveways or inside garage/carport and bicycles must be parked in orderly condition on premises of rental property.  Bathing suits, beach towels and beach gear cannot be hung on railings or displayed anywhere visible to neighbors or the general public.  Pets must be leashed anytime they are not on private residential property.  Noise is limited between the hours of 10:00 pm to 7:00 am.  Failure to abide by resort rules and regulations can result in citations with fines, and unruly or disruptive behavior at any time can terminate the rental agreement that you have with Destination Vacation and result in immediate eviction from rental property.  For a full list of Resort Rules and Regulations, please contact Destination Vacation.
